A Taste of Venice and Tuscany

100_3343for_web.jpg

Jan's 2008 exhibition is a result of a journey to Italy in 2007. This third trip to Italy continued to build Jan's passion for the country, particularly for the landscapes and the old architecture. The colours of Burano, an island adjacent to Venice, inspired many of the works in this exhibition.
Venice worked its classic charm once again. Jan's continued love affair with Venice is reflected in her paintings.
Jan also spent weeks exploring back roads and tiny hilltop towns in Tuscany, staying just outside San Gimignano. Jan finds these landscapes and medieval architecture a joy to paint.
“A Taste of Venice and Tuscany” will be held at the Southside Gallery, Southside Community Services, Boolimba Crescent, Narrabundah from 25th October 2008 to 9th November 2008. The Gallery hours are 9am - 5pm weekdays and 10am-4pm weekends and public holiday.

Coastal Moods

Summer_Freedom.JPG

This is Jan's newest exhibition to be held in February, 2007. It is an exciting collection of oil paintings depicting the moods of the Eastern and South-Eastern Coasts of Australia.

Some of the beaches depicted are Fraser Island, Surfers Paradise and Byron Bay, down to many of the holiday favourites on the south coast of New South Wales, including Tuross, Broulee and Bermagui. Also featured are the Victorian beaches of Brighton Bay, St Kilda and Lakes Entrance.

She is attracted to the vibrant, ever-changing colours of the evening skies over the ocean, the early sunrises, and the calming effect of the rolling waves at dusk.

Jan has captured the enchanting moods of the coast of Australia; the memories of all our summers.

The exhibition can be viewed at the Southside Gallery, Southside Community Services, Boolimba Crescent, Narrabundah, from February 24th to March 16th 2007.

The gallery will be open from 9am to 5pm weekdays and 11am to 4pm weekends.

Sojourn In Europe

Cafe_Scene,_Cannes.jpg

Jan Matson is showing a collection of works from recent trips overseas. Countries include Italy, France and the Adriatic Coast.

Jan has travelled extensively in Europe bringing back ideas for paintings. She is particularly drawn to the old landscape, architecture and street scenes of provincial Europe. She finds the contrast to Australian life very inspirational and her eye for colour and light make her work appealing to lovers of this part of the world. Her greatest passion is for the small, ancient towns in Italy and France. This exhibition features paintings of San Gimignano, Sienna, Assisi, Arles, Paris, Rouen, Honfleur, Dubrovnik and many other popular as well as out of the way places.

For the Southside Gallery, the showing of works of local artists is a new venture. The exhibition can be viewed at the Southside Gallery, Southside Community Services, Boolimba Cres, Narrabundah, from 11th to 19th March, 11am - 4pm weekends and 9am – 5pm weekdays.
